Chapter Six Authors Notes
In the is chapter it is more or less Gwen's feelings expressed about Ianto and Jack as well as her feelings of guilt that she, and Rhys still have each other but Jack has no one. What Gwen is feeling is a survivors sense of guilt and loss. She also now feels she never really seemed to care for her friend Ianto as she should have.
Also she feels that her dismissal by Jack now is abandonment. She knows Jack is hurting and realizes for Jack he must feel more towards Ianto then he led on while they were together. She also realizes it wasn't just one sided for just Ianto to have those feelings and he and Jack's relationship.
Gwen feels wretched and curses the sun light because she is depressed and also still the before mentioned guilty because she wasn't there. She wasn't able to be by Jack and Ianto's side when it all went down. She is also a bit angry because it played out the way it did. She lashes out at Rhys about the baby in anger but also in her feelings of gulit. She feels she had the right to be there to die and wonders inside how she can expect to enjoy the life she and Rhys now shares so easily. Why she should be happy when her boss, is broken.
Jack giving her this message and warning to Ianto's family is her last mission with Torchwood as she sees it crumbling now. She knows there will be no more excitement in her life nor danger as Jack will do this alone. He left her to live. Gewn knows this was Jack's wishes that she live. That she have what he couldn't have with Ianto.
Rhys for Gwen is her strength and though at a time she had a crush on Jack she knows it was never recipicated. Seeing the way his eyes grew dead she knew that for certain. She could see it clearly now that Jack loved Ianto very much. That he was devastated and she could feel her own need to revenge Ianto's death not just because of it,but also because of Jack's feelings now dead along with Ianto's body. Jack she knew now was closing himself off. She could see a side of Jack she had never seen before except once in a rare moment where he was dark.
Jacks admission to of at one time having turned 12 children over to the 456 and his answers of simply he was giving them a gift shocked her but now she understood. She knew Jack had his own inner demons and she knew that the 456 were in for a fight.
Jack was immortal and had no fear. He would fight till the death for this and she could not be by his side as she was very mortal. Gwen liked Ianto but wasn't anywhere near close to him as she knew she could have been. Partly because she was jealous of Ianto for being with Jack but also because Ianto was very quiet and kept to himself about private matters.
I don't believe personally in Gwen bashing as some fic writers out tere do. I like Gwen though not all the things she does in the series, but I like her because she is as fallable as we all are. She is very human.
We all make mistakes. All of us including Gwen.
In doing this last thing for Ianto and Jack it's as if she is given absolution and hopefully a peace to Ianto's family in the end so they know he is gone and not left wondering what is happening.,
