Chapter Three Authors Notes
In Chapter Three we find Ianto doing what he does best. He is cleaning and in his mind helping the Doctor and Rose. In doing so he feels like he has a purpose there. At Torchwood he was the Analyst. It was his job to keep the administrative things tidied up as Jack was bad at doing such things and it was more Ianto's job.
As he is finished with the rest of the TARDIS which is huge by the way and has many rooms, he goes back to Jack's and now his room and sits and is tiding it up when he finds the journal, pictures and tie. He is surprised that Jack had brought those things and knowing Jack as well as he did, he knew they had to have been in Jack's pocket at the time he left to go with the Doctor.
The photo was a momento of course of one of the most fantastic nights Ianto ever had. Though the case had been heart rendering for them both, Jack had made it feel better with his gentleness. It had been a turning point in their relationship in Ianto's eyes and to have that there in the TARDIS showed him that Jack was thinking of them.
When he talks to Rose it is cemented that Jack was thinking of a deeper commitment to him then he let on as once he returned from his travels with the Doctor and Rose, Jack had begun to treat theoir relationship as one more of caring and sharing and less of Jack's need for sexual desires.
Jack and he never really labeled their relationship in the Torchwood series. They however were a couple if not officially known to other people. When Rose labels him as Jack's boyfriend this surprises him a bit but makes him feel great because it seems Jack though he didn;'t admit his feelings to Ianto does to Rose a bit.
Jack's fidelity to him and what they shared shows Ianto that Jack is in the mind frame for much more than a shag and after his return Jack does become more of a boyfriend than just a sexual partner when he feels the urges.
Ianto's love for Jack though already as strong as Ianto himself can feel intensifies and he holds the coat to him, feeling the warmth and imagining his lovers arms about him because he needs the security. The coat is Jack. His essence and represents Jack to Ianto. Ianto needs to prove his worth to his companions and team he has now not just for himself but he wants Jack to feel proud of him once they reunite. Also Ianto understands from talks with Jack in the past that Jack looks at the Doctor as a fatherly figure and in a sense Ianto wants to make Jack's Father proud of him and like him.
So as he leaves the coat on the bed he smiles and happy. Ianto is determined to make the best of the situation and knows crying and whining will not do.
Ianto will read the Journal eventually though. He is surprised Jack kept a journal and more over it was as if Jack was writing him letters. So it is not in my opinion wrong for Ianto to have it. It's a comfort thing Ianto needs right now being gone from the one person he needs comforting from and to give. That is why I wrote it as such. Also why I am explaining that need. Ianto is not a wealkling he is a strong man. He is emotionally strong as well except where Jack is concerned. Their relationship was with trust and though Jack can be sadistic sometimes he is gentle with Ianto at least in bed. Now as his boss he treats that fairly and separately from their night time activities.
